Nintendo NX May Have New MARIO, POKEMON, and ZELDA Games

Back in April, Nintendo finally confirmed the rumor that the NX will launch in 2017 with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild as one of its launch titles. But that may be just the beginning of Nintendo’s lineup of titles to convince players to upgrade to its newest system.

According to a report on MCV, Nintendo is bringing out its biggest guns to ensure that the NX launch is successful. And that means that within six months of the NX launch, fans will be able to get their hands on new Mario and Pokémon titles in addition to the latest Zelda game. The report indicates that Game Freak will develop the Pokémon game for the NX, but it’s not clear if it will be a brand new title or a port of Pokémon Sun/Moon. As far as the Mario game goes, we know nothing about what that game might entail.

For previous systems, Nintendo has tended to parcel out its biggest franchises, which may have contributed to the show starts of the Wii U and the 3DS. And as eager as we are to get our hands on these games, we do have to wonder about which titles Nintendo will follow with in 2018. Nintendo NX has reportedly also lined up third-party support from Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision, and Warner Bros.—which could definitely help build up the system’s library.

The MCV report also reiterates the previous rumors that the NX will be a fusion of a home console and a portable gaming system with a breakaway controller. Nintendo has yet to officially confirm those rumors, but it certainly sounds like the direction that the company is heading in. The Nintendo NX is expected to launch in March 2017.

Nerdist has reached out for comment on the report, but had yet to hear back at the time of publication. We will update this story as more information comes available.
