Nintendo Is Releasing a Mini NES!

Put down Pokémon GO for a second because Nintendo is about to drop new hardware before year’s end! No, it’s not the NX, silly—that’s still slated to launch early 2017. Instead, the Big N is planning on releasing a brand spanking new mini Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)! This is not a joke, I promise you. Best of all, it’ll only set you back $59.99. Check out the announcement tweet for yourself:

It’s apparently small enough to hold in one hand, and it’ll even come with 30 games. We suspect they’ll be digitally downloaded on the hardware, but how sweet would it be to get mini cartridges instead? You’ll be able to nab one of these bad boys come November 11. Considering how much nostalgia can drive sales, you would think this will be a hot item right before Christmas. And to be fair, what nerd, gamer, or ’80s kid wouldn’t love getting one of these in their stocking?

The new machine will be plugged in using an HDMI cord, and will support several controller options like the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro. The package will already include one controller, but you’ll be able to swoop up an extra one fore $9.99 just in case you want to play multiplayer (when a game allows it, of course). The console will of course have Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Metroid already downloaded. We unfortunately don’t know if more games will be downloadable after launch. It looks like the console will not be connected to the web, so maybe Nintendo hopes the 30 games included will be enough for players.

Where do you rank the NES on your greatest home consoles list? Are you hyped about this new mini version of the classic hardware? Does this make it easier to wait on the NX? Do you think this’ll sell out during the holiday season? Let us know what you think in the comments below! Okay, now you can go back to playing Pokémon GO.
