For the second year in a row, Nintendo is bailing on doing a big E3 presentation in favor or smaller events.
Eurogamer reports that the publisher plans a “digital event” which will be streamed at 8 AM ET on June 10th. This makes total sense, given how well Nintendo has been able to reach fans and journalists alike with their regular Nintendo Direct streams, featuring new and upcoming games.
And they’re really embracing this whole streaming thing: top Smash Bros. Wii U players will be competing through the Nintendo feed during the show as part of an invitational event, while Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3 will provide a constant stream of gameplay demos throughout the show.

Honestly, I don’t know why the other companies are even still doing the big press conferences at E3. They’re putting themselves at the mercy of environmental problems and the live audience, and there’s almost always some sort of awkwardness involved there. With Nintendo’s strategy, they get to control all of their surroundings, and not have to worry about hardware malfunctions or any other unforeseen weirdness.
