Aside from a couple of press releases, and the launch of Super Mario Maker, Yoshi’s Wooly World, and Tri-Force Heroes, Nintendo has been pretty quiet since their E3 digital event back in June. In fact, today’s Nintendo Direct–which was the brainchild of the late Satoru Iwata–is the first since the beloved leader of the Japanese giant passed away over the summer. There was a lot of speculation leading up to the event. Though some rumors ended up being confirmed, Ninty had a ton of exciting surprises up their sleeves.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD officially confirmed for WiiU.

This is a rumor that’s been around for a good while. With Majora’s Mask–which was released on the 3DS back in February-– being the last Zelda game to get a remaster, it was only a matter of time before Nintendo took another crack at an HD remaster for the Wii U. While some were hoping for Skyward Sword, Nintendo instead kicked off the Direct today by unveiling The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. The game is set to release on March 4, 2016 and will be co-developed by the Melbourne-based studio, Tantalus.

Additionally, Nintendo also revealed a new Amiibo (seen above), which features Midna riding atop Wolf Link. On top of working with Twilight Princess, the figure will also work with the upcoming Zelda Wii U title.

New content coming to Tri force Heroes

In other Zelda-related news, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes will be getting new content in the form of an area called the “Den of Heroes.” It will reportedly feature a whopping 30 stages, the Fierce Deity Armor (from Majora’s Mask) and the new Linebeck’s Uniform outfit–which basically allows Link to see into treasure chests.

Hyrule Warriors: Legends to hit 3Ds on March 25.

We finally got an official date for Hyrule Warriors: Legends. The game is slated to hit the 3DS on March 25. In addition to revealing that Tetra, King Hyrule, Skull Kid, and Toon Link would all be joining the cast of characters, Trinen unveiled a brand new character named Linkle (pictured above), who’s clearly a female interpretation of Link. Ah, I can definitely see this confusing people who think Zelda is the name of the hero clad in green.

New Pokken Tournament footage focuses on Shadow Mewtwo

Nintendo showed off brand new footage–which you can check out above– of the upcoming Pokken Tournament. The company also announced that the first production of the game would include a Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card.

Nintendo reveals Wii U Holiday Bundle

With the holidays just around the corner, Nintendo also unveiled the Wii U bundle that will be hitting shelves. In addition to the 32 GB console, those who pick up the bundle will also score Super Smash Bros and Splatoon.

Starfox Zero gets April release date.

After an unfortunate delay, Nintendo finally gave us a new release date for Starfox Zero. The game, originally due out this year but was pushed back a couple of months ago, will be available for Wii U on April 22, 2016. Alongside the new date, they also debuted more footage (above) which put emphasis on how they were planning to use the gamepad’s screen. Using the gyroscope, players will be able to point the camera in different directions, regardless of the direction you are flying in. If it works well, it could be a great feature.

Gold Mega Man Amiibo announced.

With Mega Man Legacy slated to hit the 3DS in February–which is months after launching on console and PC–Nintendo announced that the 3DS version will be featuring 11 exclusive challenges, which will be unlocked using the Mega Man Amiibo. Before you run out to the store to grab it, you might want to hold up, because Nintendo also revealed that they would be releasing a gold Mega Man Amiibo. It’s shiny, and we want it.

Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow coming to 3DS Virtual Console.

Probably the first shocker of the show was the announcement that the original Pokémon games: Red, Blue and Yellow, would be coming to the 3DS. Unlike Ruby or Sapphire however, the games will not be remakes, but will instead be made available on the Virtual Console. They’ll also support online functionality. Ah, the days of using a cable link to trade are over, and we couldn’t be happier.

Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife is coming to Super Smash Bros.

I’ll give you a second to pick your jaw up from the floor. Yes, you read correctly, Cloud freaking Strife is coming to Super Smash Bros. I know, we couldn’t believe it either. This is the bit of news that NOBODY saw coming. In the footage shown off, which you can check out at the top of the page, Cloud is seen kicking some serious butt with his massive sword. How about that Omnislash Final Smash? They also showed of a stage that appears to take place in Midgar, and Chocobo Mii Fighter costumes.
