Nintendo Changes E3 Plans, Still No Conference or Direct

Nintendo has always been one of the hardest video game companies to figure out. The Big N is known for marching to the beat of their own drum, and this year’s E3 is no different. The internet exploded when the mega-company announced that Zelda would be the sole focus of their E3 presence, and as a result, would be the only playable title. Well, with only two weeks to spare, Nintendo is once again changing things up. While there still won’t be a conference or Nintendo Direct, more games including the new Pokémon titles, Monster Hunter Generations, Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE! will be shown off during a two-day program from Nintendo Treehouse that kicks off June 14 at 9 a.m. PT (via Kotaku).

It’s not clear yet how much of each game will be shown off during the two-day streaming event, but at least we’ll be seeing more games. It’s also a decent catalogue of games, if you ask me.

With so much change happening in the house of Mario, I still find it strange that the company isn’t using the E3 stage to relay their plans going forward. It feels like a missed opportunity, especially since they have new hardware in the works. That said, the NX will hopefully be revealed by the end of the year, during a separate event where it doesn’t have to share the spotlight with PlayStation and Xbox.

What game are you most excited to learn more about during Nintendo’s Treehouse stream? Are the new additions to the showing enough to warrant a Nintendo Direct? Do you put any stock into the idea that E3 is no longer the big deal it used to be for developers and publishers? Drop your thoughts into the comments section below!
