Nintendo CEO Denies Reports Of LEGEND OF ZELDA Netflix Series

And we kick off the week with a large dose of things appearing too good to be true. If the anticipation of the recently rumored Legend of Zelda Netflix series has been boiling in your veins, then you may want to hold your Eponas, folks. Satoru Iwata denied the recent reports in an interview with Time Magazine that published this morning.

Last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that Nintendo and Netflix were set to collaborate and grace us with a shiny new series based on Legend of Zelda. Rumors even suggested that the show would be like Game of Thrones, but with a family twist to it. But Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata had a thing or two to say about such claims:

“As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films, but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information,” Iwata clarified with Time.

While this doesn’t completely write off the possibility of a Legend of Zelda series being in the works, it definitely makes you wonder how much of the Wall Street Journal’s original report was accurate. The fact that Nintendo hasn’t commented on this matter–after almost a month of these rumors spreading across the web–also leaves a lot to be questioned.

Was the Legend of Zelda series truly a myth? Is this Nintendo attempting to hold out so that they can make the big announcement at E3? Tell us what you think will come of this confusion in the comments below.

It’s not like the Wall Street Journal to make tabloid-like claims. And I for one, a 28 year zelda fan, am a little disappointed

Im happy this isnt happening, and im a huge fan of the series
One thing they would have to do, is have him talk. I love that he never talks

Sounds like PR stunt for Majora release

    • Brenden says:

Actually, the rumors that this was happening came out after the release of MM3D, so this was not PR for it.

  6. The DC says:

I say make it. If it sucks, pay no mind. If its good, then good. No sweat off my bawls.

  7. Kevtron says:

I am all about the Disney-fication of Nintendo properties. I think they are well enough established that spinning them off into different media – animated/live-action series, movies etc makes a lot of sense.

I’m seeing Zelda fanboys saying they’re glad there not making it I’m like facepalming why not give them a chance they might not fuck it up and if they do oh well.
