Nickelodeon + Nostalgia = Artistic Gold

If you’re in the Los Angeles area (or environs) and were a child of the 80s and 90s, you’ll most certainly want to check out the new art exhibit opening at the iam8bit gallery on Sunset Blvd., It’s the shizNICK!. It’s a celebration of everything that great bastion of children’s programming, Nickelodeon, means to us kids of a certain age.

Over 60 artists have contributed nearly 100 pieces of art to this show, which will run at the iam8bit space at 2147 West Sunset Blvd from April 19th to May 5th. (Details on the gallery’s site.) Remember Double Dare? It’s represented. Doug, Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life and Hey Arnold? They’re all there. The scariest show your tiny minds could comprehend, Are You Afraid of the Dark? It’s on display and it’ll make you pee your pants.

To celebrate the opening, the gallery is hosting a Super Sloppy extravaganza on Friday night from 7 to 11 pm. It will feature live music from DJ Lance from Yo Gabba Gabba, a mondo-secret photo playset (we don’t know what it is), a 25-foot-wide Animated GIF Theatre, and, oh, I don’t know, maybe SLIIIIIIIIIIME. The best part? It’s FREE! All you have to do if you’d like to attend is RSVP via their Facebook event page and show up and be prepared for a trip into your childhood. Literally into it.

What’s that? You want a taste of the artwork you’ll see? Fine, Demand Assante; keep on scrolling.

So, now that you’re thoroughly excited, head to iam8bit Gallery between April 19th and May 5th, and RSVP at its Facebook page if you want to attend the opening extravaganza. Don’t be left hunting the Neematoad alone.
