Nick Offerman Made a Great Father’s Day Gift, But His Dad Had Him Beat

As has been well documented, Nick Offerman has a lot in common with his most famous character, Parks and Recreation‘s Ron Swanson. Like the parks department director, Offerman is also a naturalistic man with a penchant for making things himself out of wood, so for Father’s Day, he decided to put his talents to use and create something for his old man. Little did he know, though, that his pop might just be a better woodworker.

In a new video for Lagavulin Single Malt Scotch Whisky, as part of his My Tales Of Whisky series, Offerman brings his dad to his shop and asks him to stay put while we makes something for him. The ensuing montage shows Offerman making a ukulele while the elder Offerman can be seen in the background operating heavy machinery and moving a lot of wood. When Offerman finally presents his stringed gift to his dad, he finds that his old man went ahead and made a piano from scratch.

“Well, you were gone for an hour,” the elder Offerman said. “What was I supposed to do?”

The Offerman men always seem to have a good time with each other on Father’s Day; to celebrate the occasion last year, the two went fishing, on a presumably Offerman-made canoe, in complete silence. The Offerman men are simple men, and being outside without saying a word sounds like a fine way to spend a day.

Check out both Father’s Day videos, and let us know in the comments below if either of these videos are how your own dad would like to celebrate.
