Hear Nick Offerman Narrate Mark Twain’s A CONNECTICUT YANKEE IN KING ARTHUR’S COURT Audiobook

We can’t remember Ron Swanson having any opinion on satire, but since he hated symbolism and lying we’re gonna guess he had no use for cleverly disguised social commentary. Fortunately, Nick Offerman does not feel the same way, which is why he will be narrating another Mark Twain audiobook, A Connecticut Yankee in Arthur’s Court.

Audible has announced Offerman will follow his narration work on The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by reading Twain’s classic story of a 19th century engineer who magically gets sent back in time to the era of King Arthur, where he tries to fool the royal court into thinking he is far more powerful than he is.

We never need any explanation for why Nick Offerman does anything, but we’re still happy when he gives us one.

“Sure, there are better looking readers, and certainly voices more melodious, but I am grateful that Audible recognizes the importance of filtering Mark Twain’s fiction through a crusty filter of upper-lip brambles for the greatest possible authenticity. I am doubly thankful that I am allowed to recite these gorgeous paragraphs without the assistance of Twain’s hourly cigars. Because of my healthy lungs and whatnot.”

As are we.

And we’re also happy there are two clips for us to listen to. The first, “Loyalty,” is one of the book’s most popular passages, and gets at the heart of what the novel is about.

The second clip, “Lasso,” brings together Nick Offerman, a duel, and “cowboy business.”

The audiobook will be available on September 19th, and you can only get it at through Audible here.

We can’t imagine Ron Swanson would have agreed to stay cooped up in a recording studio long enough to do something like this, but thankfully Nick Offerman has no problem reading anything longer than a three-word pamphlet.

What other Mark Twain story would you love to hear him read? We’d love to read your best suggestions in the comments below.
