Next for GEARS’ Bleszinski: Free-to-play Shooter BlueStreak

We now know a little more about the secret project that brought Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski out of retirement: it’s codenamed “BlueStreak” and is under development at his new studio, Boss Key Productions.

Beyond the fact that it’s a free-to-play first-person shooter for the PC, we don’t know much else about “BlueStreak” other than that it’s in active development. Maybe we can piece the mystery of what the game is about from this statement from Bleszinski supplied by Nexeon:

“Creating fun and memorable shooters is in my DNA, and making the move to free-to-play games is all about maximizing the potential audience for your title while embracing where the industry is headed,” said Bleszinski, founder and chief executive officer, Boss Key. “No one knows the free-to-play market better than Nexon, which is why they were the obvious partner to publish BlueStreak. It’s a game and concept I think will really resonate with players who have been clamoring for a new take on an old favorite. After all, I’ve had a year and a half to plan it.”

Nope, not a clue. But it will be exciting to see what Bleszinski can bring to the first-person genre after years helping redefine the third-person shooter with the Gears of War franchise while at Epic Games.

In a press release this morning, free-to-play/online publisher Nexon announced that they would be partnering with Boss Key to distribute “BlueStreak” worldwide, while also taking a minority stake in the company. The Korea-based Nexon currently publishes MapleStory, and Counter-Strike Online 2.

Oh, and they’re hiring.
