“When I heard your song, it stopped me in my tracks. It was raw, hard; it connected me to your world: crime, drugs, sex, drugs, madness. Do you have any idea how huge that is?”

Those are the words of music executive Richie Finestra in the new trailer for the upcoming HBO series Vinyl, about the changing and dynamic music scene in late 1970s New York City. Finestra, played by Bobby Cannavale, is looking to save his company by finding new acts, and that’s the focus of this third trailer for the show, where Finestra’s focus is on a new punk band he thinks could help change the industry.

The pilot episode was directed by executive producer Martin Scorsese, and the show is loosely based on fellow executive producer Mick Jagger’s experiences in the music business in 1970. Terence Winter (The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire), who is also an executive producer on the show, wrote the ten-episode season and is the show runner.

Like it says in the trailer, “No one’s a rock star by accident.” Based on the fast, powerful, frantic trailers for the show, Vinyl looks as though it wants to stay true to its main character’s desire for passionate, raw, and powerful music to tell it’s story.

Vinyl also stars Ray Romano and Olivia Wilde and debuts on February 14 at 9 p.m. on HBO.
