New York Comic Con Preview: Thrilling Adventure Hour, Nerdist Writers Panel, and Much More!

San Diego Comic-Con is now but a memory as the summer turns to fall. But never fear! The leaves may be changing, you may be sniffing the occasional bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils (everyone does), and you’ve probably already succumbed to Starbucks’ nefarious schemes to replace your blood with pumpkin spice lattes. With the changing season comes New York Comic Con and a whole slew of events from our pals Ben Blacker, Ben Acker, and all the fine folk behind Thrilling Adventure Hour. Here’s where you will be able to find them in the Big Apple.

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Nerdist Comics Panel, 6-7pm @ Rockbar in the West Village

Hosts Ben Blacker and Heath Corson will be joined by Charles Soule (Death of Wolverine, She-Hulk, and Superman & Wonder Woman) and Gerry Duggan (Deadpool, Nova, and Hulk). Up for discussion in this panel, the process and business of writing comic books, writing for Marvel and DC, and ways to kill Wolverine. All proceeds of ticket sales will benefit 826NYC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students develop their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Thursday, October 9, 2014

Nerdist Writers Panel, 7-8pm at Housing Works Bookstore

Host Ben Blacker will talk the process and business of writing with Danny Strong (The Butler; Hunger Games: Mockingjay 1 & 2) and Ales Kot (writer of Marvel’s Secret Avengers and Iron Patriot, and Zero, from Image Comics) at Housing Works Bookstore. All proceeds of the ticket sales will go to Housing Works to help them continue their mission to fight AIDS and homelessness in the city.

Friday, October 10, 2014

Birdman Panel, moderated by Chris Hardwick, 6-7pm at Empire Stage 1-E

Join Michael Keaton and Edward Norton as they discuss BIRDMAN, an extremely unique black comedy that tells the story of an actor (Michael Keaton) – famous for portraying an iconic superhero decades earlier – as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his own ego and engages in often surreal attempts to recover his family, his career and himself.

Nerdist Comics Panel, 6-7pm at Rockbar in the West Village

In the second Nerdist Comics Panel at NYCC, Brian Michael Bendis (Guardians of the Galaxy; All-New X-Men; Powers; Scarlet; Ultimate Spider-Man) will join Ben Blacker and Heath Corson to talk about his work in other media, the creation of Miles Morales the Ultimate Spider-Man, and his new book, Words for Pictures: The Art and Business of Writing Comics. All proceeds of this second panel will also benefit 826NYC.

Thrilling Adventure Hour Presents: WorkJuice Improv Show & Panel, 9:30pm at Littlefield in Brooklyn

Join Paul F. Tompkins, Marc Evan Jackson, Craig Cackowski, Mark Gagliardi, Hal Lublin and some very special guests including Janet Varney and Scott Adsit for an event of improvisation as they create an entire show on the spot – inspired by guest monologist Donal Logue (Gotham; Terriers). Following the show the cast and guests will have a special on-stage panel. This event is 21+ and over only.

Saturday, October 11th

Thrilling Adventure Hour at the Bell House in Brooklyn, 7:30 & 9:30pm

Join the WorkJuice Players, the Andy Paley Orchestra and special guests Jonathan Coulton, Paul & Storm, John Hodgman, Terry Kinney, Janet Varney and more for Thrilling Adventure Hour on the banks of the Gowanus Canal. Both the early and late show are sold out.

You can also catch the WorkJuice players at Javits at the Thrilling Adventure Hour booth! Stop by for signings, merchandise and a graphic novel or two.
