It’s hard to believe, but we’re less than a week away from Blizzard’s annual showing at BlizzCon. With hype for the famous publisher/developer’s work at an all-time high, Empire magazine took the opportunity to debut three brand new stills from the upcoming Warcraft film–which is set to debut in June 2016. While the resolution is poor, it is certainly nice to get a glimpse of the video game-to-film adaptation.
The images, which you can check out in the gallery below, showcase three of the movie’s characters: Sir Anduin Lothar (played by Vikings‘ Travis Fimmel); the leader of the orcs, Durotan (played by Fantastic Four‘s Toby Kebbell); and Orgrim Doomhammer (played by Pacific Rim‘s Robert Kazinsky). The film also stars Dominic Cooper (King Llane Wrynn), Ben Foster (Medivh), Ben Schnetzer (Khadgaer), Ruth Negga (Lady Taria), Clancy Brown (Blackhand), Daniel Wu (Gul’Dan), and Paula Patton (Garona). Whew! That’s quite the line-up.
Although we don’t have too many details about the film’s plot, we know that the origin story is set in Azeroth, and reportedly takes place during the first war between the humans and the orcs. While most are familiar with the franchise, thanks in large part to World of Warcraft, many aren’t aware that it all started with the RTS/MMORPG Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, back in 1994. If you’re in the category of people who either don’t know much about Warcraft, or are familiar with the name but not the lore, our very own Michele Morrow ran through everything you need to know about the series.
What are you most excited to see in the film? Let us know in the comments below.
