New VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER Trailer Reinvents the Legend

“From days of long ago comes the legend of Voltron, Defender of the Universe.” But this isn’t the Voltron that you’ve seen before. DreamWorks Animation TV and Netflix have completely re-envisioned Voltron in the upcoming Voltron: Legendary Defender animated series, which is less than a month away from debuting!

EP Daily has debuted a brand new trailer for Voltron: Legendary Defender, and it offers the most complete look at the new series that we’ve seen to date. Among the many changes, Keith (Steven Yeun), Lance (Jeremy Shada), Pidge (Bex Taylor-Klaus), Hunk (Tyler Labine), and Josh Keaton’s Shiro, who isn’t called Sven anymore, aren’t space explorers who were sent to find Voltron. Instead, they appear to be cadets who stumble onto the legend and discover the resting place of the Blue Lion before finding the remaining giant robotic Lions that combine into Voltron.

We also get a glimpse of Neil Kaplan’s warrior-like King Zarkon and hear Cree Summer’s voice as the witch Haggar. There’s no Lotor in this trailer, but we expect that will change at some point in the series. The trailer also checks in on Arus and unveils a much more regal take on Princess Allura (Kimberly Brooks), who is rockin’ a platinum blonde hairstyle in this incarnation.

Unlike previous revivals of Voltron, Legendary Defender has Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra veterans Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos running the show. That’s a good sign that we’re in for some great Voltron stories!

All episodes of Voltron: Legendary Defender will premiere on Netflix on June 10.
