For the last two years, Marvel and Netflix have laid the groundwork for the second superhero team in the MCU with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the upcoming Iron Fist series. But this summer, The Defenders will finally converge, and the eight-episode miniseries already has us excited!
Entertainment Weekly has posted a new video of the Defenders cover shoot for the latest issue of the magazine, in which Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones briefly recapped who their characters are before dropping a few hints about what we can expect to see in the story.
“Danny Rand is the one who knows what’s really going on,” said Jones. “He knows how serious this situation is…he’s the one who kind of drives the group to get ****ed up, really.” Ritter noted that her character, Jessica Jones, isn’t exactly crazy about teaming up with the other three heroes on the team. “It’s hard for someone who doesn’t want to be a part of any social circles to have to participate in this group activity. So she brings her attitude and her biting sense of humor.”
Colter shared his belief that Luke Cage is “the most centered of the group. So hopefully, when things have to happen, he thinks about it twice and starts to use his wisdom. I think that’s what he brings to the group. As for Cox, he said “since season 2 of Daredevil, something’s gonna have to change in him whereby he’s willing to accept help…he’s willing to be part of a team.”
It’s likely that the common thread bringing the Defenders together is the Hand, the ninja death cult that appeared throughout the second season of Daredevil; which is also said to heavily play into the first season of Iron Fist. That said, we’re still not sure whom Sigourney Weaver will portray in the miniseries, but we do know that she’s the lead villain.
