They don’t give us a whole lot of information in their trailers, those programmers there at the BBC. After the initial Next Time trailer for this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, “Last Christmas,” and the subsequent Children in Need clip, I figured that’s all we’d really be getting about the first Peter Capaldi holiday jam sesh. But no! The Beeb has come out with another trailer with different clips and things… but it’s still only about 30 seconds. Can’t give away too much now.
This one focuses a lot more on Clara, I suppose, and back to the whole idea of the chalkboard and messages that weren’t there a second ago, which was featured heavily in “Listen” this last season. “You. Are. Dying.” That’s pretty foreboding. Not verboten, though. Not yet. We also get the sense that Santa Claus might actually, on top of giving out gifts and what not, be some kind of Northern Hemisphere Kojak and his elves are his task force. What a crazy-weird idea. And it looks like the Doctor and Santa don’t get along, so probably they represent two different factions of alien fighters, like Santa’s the FBI and the Doctor’s the independent contractor who gets all the collars. Man, the episode might not be about this at all but in my head it’s a grand ol’ time.
Oh, and more soppy gob-faces coming up from under sheets. They might all just need dentures.
“Last Christmas” airs December 25th at 9/8c on BBC America. Santa Claus spinoff happening soon (in my dream).
I’m over it. Steven Moffat has lost total sight of Doctor Who. I totally get that it’s actually normal to get disappointed over this show for various reasons, but this is different. The plots this season have been childish and just… I don’t even feel like finishing that sentence. Let’s get rid of Moffat, bring back Davies or someone who can bring back to life the spirit of Season 4. Santa Claus alien, the moon is a space-dragon egg, Robin Hood, etc. It’s just… not working for me. This show used to appeal to kids, teens, and adults. Now it’s just kids & teens. Lame.
