New THE WALKING DEAD Midseason Premiere Trailer

Fans of The Walking Dead comic book series noted that the midseason finale left Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the Alexandria survivors in a very familiar situation that could lead to one of the most memorable moments in the story. There are some potential Walking Dead spoilers ahead! You’ve been warned!

To save themselves, Rick convinced Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge), Carl (Chandler Riggs), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), Ron (Austin Abrams), and Sam (Major Dodson) to cover themselves in walker guts and fool the zombie horde. However, Sam’s cries for his mother in the midst of their escape appeared to jeopardize their chances of making it out alive.

During the original telling of this story in the comic, at least two members of Rick’s entourage were overtaken by the walkers, and he was forced to dramatically remove someone’s hand with an axe to save someone else. The closing shot of Rick in AMC’s new Walking Dead midseason premiere trailer seems to deliberately echo that scene. However, the identity of the person on the receiving end of the axe could be different in the TV series.

The midseason trailer also hints at a much bigger problem ahead: Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). While Negan doesn’t show up himself, his Saviors confront Daryl (Norman Reedus), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) in a partial reprise of the teaser scene that aired last month.

The Walking Dead will return to AMC on Sunday, February 14, 2016.
