For over a century, Rudyard Kiplingâs The Jungle Book has entranced audiences with the story of Mowgli, a young boy who was raised by wolves before he was forced to leave the only home that he had ever known. Later this year, Iron Man director Jon Favreauâs modern take on The Jungle Book will adapt the 1967 Disney animated film with photo-realistic CGI animals and an all-star voice cast.
In the latest TV ad for The Jungle Book, the panther Bagheera (Ben Kingsley) reveals just how deep his affection for Mowgli (Neel Sethi) runs. While Mowgli was a part of the wolf pack led by Akela (Giancarlo Esposito), Bagheera also looks upon Mowgli as if he had raised the human child himself.
The ad only lightly touches upon the threat to Mowgliâs life, as the tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba) attempts to fulfill his vow to kill the boy while Bagheera leaps to his defense. We also catch a glimpse of the great serpent, Kaa, who is voiced by Scarlett Johansson in this version of the story. King Louie (Christopher Walken) chases Mowgli as well, and the footage hints at the reverence that the animals of the jungle have for the elephants, whom they revere as gods.
While Bill Murrayâs Baloo doesnât say a word in this ad, Balooâs signature song, âThe Bare Necessitiesâ is given an exciting remix against the backdrop of Mowgliâs dangerous journey to Manâs World.
The Jungle Book will swing into theaters on Friday, April 15.
