Before you brave the winter weather to get started on your holiday shopping this weekend, we’ve got a little something to warm you up in today’s Movie Morsels: a pulse-quickening new pic from the eagerly awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower! Plus, the latest photos from Logan and the Power Rangers reboot, an update on the next Cloverfield movie, and more!
The Dark Tower
Nothing to see here folks. Just two cool dudes generating so much tension with their eyes that you wish they were starring in a romantic comedy rather than a science-fantasy/horror/western epic… Seriously, it’s been a while since we’ve seen a new photo from director Nikolaj Arcel’s upcoming screen version of Stephen King’s bestselling book series The Dark Tower. But our patience has been rewarded, with a shot of stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey having a stare-down over which one of them is prettier, or whatever the hell Roland the Gunslinger and the Man in Black are staring down over…

Logan
If, for whatever reason, it turns out that Hugh Jackman’s final screen appearance as Wolverine isn’t quite what we hoped it would be, at least we’ve got ourselves one helluva gallery of black-and-white photography from the film. The latest addition to this growing collection of images, tweeted by Jackman himself yesterday, confirms Richard E. Grant’s character in Logan: Dr. Zander Rice; a.k.a. one of the folks responsible for creating X-23, Wolvie’s mutant sidekick in the film, played by Dafne Keen. Though it’s more fun to call her “Mini-Wolvie”…

God Particle
Uh oh. Looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer than we expected to see the third installment in J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield saga. Paramount has moved the release of God Particle from February 24, 2017 to October 27, 2017. What’s more, the movie has dropped its title in favor of the even more mysterious placeholder “Cloverfield Movie.” Still, any science-fiction film that stars Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris O’Dowd, Zhang Ziyi, and David Oyelowo is worth waiting for in my book, especially one that sees these folks fighting for their lives on board a space station after the earth has disappeared!
Power Rangers
While I still have reservations about the whitewashing of Rita Repulsa in the Power Rangers reboot film, I gotta admit that Elizabeth Banks cuts one mean figure as the movie’s Big Bad. Along with Kermit the Frog, Swamp Thing, Peter Pan, Gamora, the Hulk, and Poison Ivy, she’s just one of those people that really knows how to wear green…

The Wall
Finally today… Wrestler, rapper, and actor John Cena was a welcome presence in the recent comedies Trainwreck and Sisters, so it’s nice to see the gentle giant getting the spotlight in a more serious screen project, the action thriller The Wall. Set in Iraq and co-starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, it’s about members of a U.S. sniper team trapped by the enemy. Here’s the first trailer for the Amazon Studios release, due out in March…
