Some days you have to wait impatiently through the first half of a football game to see a new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and other days you just roll out of bed and there’s new footage online. Disney and Lucasfilm have released a new international trailer for the Japanese audience, and they didn’t have to make any noise or announce the trailer for fans to find it–we discover it and work ourselves into a frenzy without any help. And this trailer is worth the frenzy too because there’s a ton of new footage.
The international trailer has several shots in common with the teasers we’ve seen before and the recently released full-length trailer, but the new scenes here seem to focus on relationships. It shows Finn and Rey introducing themselves to each other, Rey having a chat with BB-8 (what family is she waiting for?!), and you can see Poe Dameron working alongside Leia in the Resistance. Finally, there’s the unfortunate part with Kylo Ren pointing his fiery lightsaber at Rey’s neck. Even with more information and imagery, this latest promo doesn’t give away too much of the story–not really.
However, if you still had any doubt about who the main character in this film is, this trailer should clear it up for you. Daisy Ridley’s Rey is front and center. I’m assuming that means she’s a Skywalker (I think her and Kylo Ren are siblings), but regardless of her heritage, hers is the journey we’ll be following.
What did you think of the trailer? Will it be the last one you watch before the film arrives on December 18?
