New STAR TREK Video and Infographic Track the Evolution of The Enterprise

“Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.”

These are the words that reverberate throughout the Star Trek franchise, all the way from the original series in 1966 to the current Star Trek reboot films. Throughout the franchise’s nearly 50 year history, there have been at least eight starships named Enterprise. The Star Trek universe has even retroactively claimed some of the historical ships named Enterprise as a bridge from the past to the future.

A newly released video morphs the very first USS Enterprise from 1775, into the USS Enterprise (CV-6) aircraft carrier from World War II before changing into the NASA space shuttle Enterprise, which was actually named after the first Star Trek ship! From there, the space shuttle Enterprise transforms into every iteration of Star Trek’s Enterprise, including the rarely seen USS Enterprise XCV 330 from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Accompanying the video is an infographic featuring all of the Enterprises in scale with each other.

The most prominent Enterprises in Star Trek are the NCC-1701 from the original series, and the NCC-1701-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Star Trek Captains Kirk and Picard both lost their original Enterprises during their respective cinematic adventures. Their replacement ships, the NCC-1701-A and NCC-1701-E are also represented in this infographic.

Lesser known Enterprises including the NCC-1701-B from Star Trek: Generations, and the NCC-1701-C from the “Yesterday’s Enterprise” episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation are also represented. Even Captain Archer’s Enterprise NX-01 from Star Trek: Enterprise takes its rightful place among the lineage of starships.
