UPDATE: EW has revised their story and clarified that these are from the Card Trader digital app.
For nearly 40 Â years, it’s been a tradition for Topps to release a set of Star Wars trading cards alongside each movie in the franchise. But this December, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is throwing fans into the deep side of the Death Star with a cast of characters and creatures that we’ve never seen before. And while we’ve had a few glimpses of Jyn Erso and her team, there are a lot of new faces this time around.
Entertainment Weekly has debuted six new cards from the upcoming Rogue One sets which offer a tantalizing taste of what’s to come. The first one is a female X-Wing pilot who is unnamed on her card. That said, EW notes that she seems to be very similar to Evaan Verlaine, an Aldaraanian pilot who made her debut in the Princess Leia comic book miniseries by Mark Waid and Terry Dodson. Even if she isn’t Evaan, she is apparently responsible for shooting down 20 ships from the Empire, if the “V” marks on her helmet are any indication. Top that, Wedge!
We’re not entirely sure what we’re looking at with the next card, as the caption simply says “Life on Jedha.” We do know that Jedha is considered to be an important world for believers in the Force, and it is a location that draws pilgrims from across the galaxy to come together. This world may also be important to the Empire’s construction of the Death Star.
EW suggests that these masks and robes may be worn by the pilgrims on Jedha, but we think that these costumes would also make excellent disguises for Jyn and her crew to get close to the Empire’s operations without drawing too many suspicions. Those outfits are pretty striking, so the only reason that they wouldn’t stand out is if they are commonplace on Jedha.
The rest of the pictures can be seen on EW’s site, including pics of Edrio Two Tubes and his brother Benthic, a pair of Mon Calamari, a Gigoran named Moroff, and General Merrick.
