You probably don’t need a reminder that only four days remain until Christmas, but I just gave you one anyway. Whether you want time to speed up or slow down, TV-Cap can helpâit’s magic that way. Join me to see new teasers for Riverdale and Twin Peaks, to learn about casting for season three of Fargo, and more.
This Looks Ominous. Riverdale doesn’t portray Archie’s home as what I would call a happy, typical small town. No, it looks like it’s full of secrets. A new teaser for The CW take on Archie Comics promises “the deeper you go, the darker the secrets.” Riverdale premieres January 26. [Slashfilm]
More Names. Fargo’s roster for season three already impresses with the likes of Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead on board, but it’s expanding. FX has announced three additions: David Thewlis as V.M. Vargas, “a mysterious loner and true capitalist,” Michael Stuhlbarg as Sy Feltz, Emmit’s right hand man and consigliere, and Jim Gaffigan as Donny Mashman, Gloria’s deputy at the local police department.
A Blunt End. Blunt Talk is over. Starz announced the cancellation of the comedy starring Patrick Stewart on Tuesday. It aired for two seasons. [IGN]
Saw’s Coming. As we mentioned yesterday, Saw Gerrera from Rogue One (also Star Wars: The Clone Wars) is dropping into Star Wars Rebels when season three returns on January 7. Entertainment Weekly (EW) confirmed Forest Whitaker will indeed be voicing the character, and Disney/Lucasfilm released a clip from the upcoming episode, “Ghosts of Geonosis.” This is a couple years before the events of Rogue One, so it’s interesting to see that Saw appears to be in much better shape. Maybe something will happen in the episode to help turn him into what we see in the film?
Spinoff Leads. Let’s talk about some kick-ass lady characters, shall we? Specifically ones who deserve their own television spinoff series. Keisha has a whole list of ’em right here at Nerdist.
Angel Among Us. You have to wait until January 26 for new episodes of Supernatural, but series executive producer Andrew Dabb gave a little tease about what’s ahead to TVLine. He told them that fans of Castiel should be pleased because they have “at least three really strong Castiel episodes” on the books, including one that goes into a lost chapter of the character’s history. Read more at TVLine.
Donut Break. Here’s some news about Showtime’s revival of Twin Peaks: David Lynch will reprise his role as Gordon Cole. A new teaser shows Lynch eating a glazed donut and looking serious. Mmm, now I want donuts. [Nerdist]
Baby Girl. Season two of Starz’s Outlander introduced us to a grown-up Brianna, the daughter of Jamie and Claire. But what happens when Frank meets the baby that is definitely not his? Well, it has to be awkward, right? EW has a first look at baby Brianna and some comments from series star Caitriona Balfe about how the encounter will play out.
Happy, Merry. Let’s round out today’s TV-Cap with some holiday cheer, shall we? The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has the joy you’ve been looking for. First up, he has Jon Batiste sing Batman-themed Christmas carols (like you do). And then, you can watch Liam Neeson audition for the important role of the mall Santa Claus; he takes inspiration from his Taken role. I’d call it priceless. [Nerdist]
