New Promo for THE X-FILES Gets Abstract

There are 104 days until The X-Files returns to Fox after a 13-year absence. But fans who were lucky enough to attend last weekend’s New York Comic Con had the chance to see the U.S. premiere of the six-episode X-Files revival miniseries alongside series creator Chris Carter and original series stars David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi.

Because there is only so much footage that Fox can preview without spoiling everything, the network has produced a new promo for The X-Files miniseries that uses audio quotes from the first episode in conjunction with some striking animation that translates the world of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully into an even more surreal and abstract place. The UFO abduction is particularly eye-catching in this video.

“We must ask ourselves, are we truly alone? Or are we being lied to?” Fox Mulder poses those questions very early in the first episode of The X-Files miniseries, and they may prove to be critical to the overall story. Mulder’s long held beliefs were challenged in the episode that was screened at NYCC, and there may be an alternative explanation for the infamous mythology behind the series.

This promo also has a spoiler about the return of a certain villain whose demise was witnessed by the audience in the very last episode of The X-Files. But it’s not a huge secret that this actor was returning. Aside from Robert Patrick’s Agent John Doggett, almost every major X-Files character who isn’t dead will reappear in the miniseries. There are even a few dead characters who are making return appearances as well!

Mulder and Scully (Gillian Anderson) will reopen The X-Files on Sunday, January 24, 2016 on Fox.
