New ORPHAN BLACK Season 4 (and Character) Details Emerge

Holy doodle, sestras: did you know Orphan Black began production on its fourth season on Monday, September 28? Well, they done did it, folks and let me tell you—it sounds like Sarah Manning and the rest of the Clone Club have got their work cut out for them. If these new season four details have any say in the mysterious matter. Spoilers ahead, folks!

Buried within a press release announcing the start of production, BBC America clued us in on some ominous details about premise and new/returning characters this season. And it looks like we’re going to dive deep not only into the Neolutionist stranglehold, but also into the backstory we’ve—up until this point—never explored. Yes, we’re talking about Beth Childs, folks. Apparently there’s more mystery where that one’s concerned.

Per the BBC America press release:

“Season four of the drama will see leader-of-the-pack, Sarah, reluctantly return home from her Icelandic hideout to track down an elusive and mysterious ally tied to the clone who started it all – Beth Childs. Sarah will follow Beth’s footsteps into a dangerous relationship with a potent new enemy, heading in a horrifying new direction. Under constant pressure to protect the sisterhood and keep everyone safe, Sarah’s old habits begin to resurface. As the close-knit sisters are pulled in disparate directions, Sarah finds herself estranged from the loving relationships that changed her for the better.”

But that’s not all: we’ve also gotten our first new casting announcement of the year: Joel Thomas Hynes will guest as a character named Dizzy, an “edgy, self-reliant hacker who doesn’t conform to group mentality.” Hynes is one of those fancy-schmancy multi-hyphenate types, known for his acting and writing (as a novelist, screenwriter, and playwright). Returning this season will be the typical crew of clone clubbers, including Jordan Gavaris (Felix), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Mrs. S), Kristian Bruun (Donnie), Kevin Hanchard (Art), Skyler Wexler (Kira), and Josh Vokey (Scott).

More ominously, James Frain’s Ferdinand is slated to return, as are Allison Steadman (Kendall Malone, the original), Rosemary Dunsmore (Susan Duncan), and Ari Millen as “a mysterious new Castor clone, the likes of which we’ve never seen before.” Anyone want to put money on whether or not Millen will get in on the Neolutionist business and portray some sort of super-souped-up clone ala what they’ve done to Rachel Duncan?

Guess it’s time to re-watch our interview with the gang from SDCC and search their answers for clues!

Let us know your thoughts in the comments! There’s clearly a lot on which to speculate!
