New MASS EFFECT: ANDROMEDA Demo Shows off the Power of Playstation 4 Pro

Next year, EA and BioWare are revisiting the Mass Effect universe in Mass Effect: Andromeda. And while the final game is still several months away, gamers have been given a tantalizing glimpse of what to expect during Sony’s Playstation Meeting event.

Via Mashable, EA released a pre-alpha demo video of Mass Effect: Andromeda on the Playstation 4 Pro, which shows off the power of the upgraded console. As noted by BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn, this advance video was “meant to be experienced in 4k,” although he added that the game will look good no matter which platform it’s on. Flynn referred to the system as Playstation 4 Neo (which suggests that the Playstation 4 Pro name was a recent change), and he added that all of the footage was captured from that console.

Mass Effect: Andromeda follows a Pathfinder named Ryder as he and his allies attempt to find a new colony for humanity many years after the events of the original Mass Effect trilogy. In this segment, Ryder and the crew of the Tempest explore an alien cavern and avoid some familiar threats. After about two minutes of gameplay, the video switches to an impressively rendered cut scene which finds the crew in quite a bit of trouble after they activate the machine within the cavern.

EA has tentatively set a release for Mass Effect: Andromeda in the first quarter 0f 2017.
