New LUKE CAGE Footage Shows Harlem’s Hero in Action

Marvel Comics’ Luke Cage was the original Hero for Hire, but he was also one of the more selfish characters during his first few years. The modern version of Luke Cage added more dimensions to his personality, which in turn inspired Mike Colter‘s performance as Cage during the first season of Jessica Jones. Later this month, Colter is headlining the Luke Cage solo series, and he’s once again putting some space between the title character and initial depictions in this new preview tease.

Netflix has released a new Luke Cage preview scene which depicts a more altruistic side of Cage as he confronts a few dangerous individuals attempting to shake down two local business owners. Because Cage’s unbreakable skin makes him borderline invincible, he barely has to do anything at all. But he clearly doesn’t like being shot!

Netflix didn’t provide context for this scene, but if we had to hazard a guess, we’d say that the bad guys are working for Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali), the man who controls the criminal underworld in Harlem. Cottonmouth is an updated and modernized version of one of Cage’s earliest comic book villains, and he won’t be dispatched as easily as his men. For all of his power, Cottonmouth knows that Cage is still only one man. He can’t be everywhere, and Cage has his own secrets to protect.

Luke Cage will premiere on Friday, September 30 on Netflix.

And here’s everything we know from the footage thus far:
