Back in September, the new musical comedy, La La Land, won our hearts at TIFF, and now movie fans everywhere will get their chance to see this throwback romance next month on the big screen. A new trailer for the film was just released, and it offered a better glimpse of La La Land‘s lovers, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
The trailer actually opened with Stone’s Mia Dolan bombing an audition and Gosling’s Sebastian Wilder getting fired from his dive bar before showing us their very cute meeting. Of course, Gosling and Stone are no strangers to each other, as they’ve previously played lovers in Crazy, Stupid, Love and Gangster Squad. Perhaps that’s why their chemistry is so arresting, even in the brief clips from the trailer.
From there, the story takes on a very dream like quality as La La Land embraces the romantic insanity of movie musicals. Mia and Sebastian are clearly crazy about each other; unfortunately, their dreams have a price. The trailer avoided showing many downbeat moments, and yet we already know that there’s trouble ahead. As Mia and Sebastian each find success in their career, it starts to pull them away from each other and threaten their romance.
La La Land was written and directed by Damien Chazelle, and it will dance its way into theaters on Friday, December 9.
