New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Animated Preview Reveals Gamora’s Origin

In Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Gamora is often said to be “the deadliest woman in the universe,” thanks to the machinations of her adopted “father,” Thanos. But why is Gamora more compassionate than her “siblings” Korath and Nebula?

The new Guardians of the Galaxy animated series is offering its own explanation for Gamora’s change of heart. In a two-part video, Gamora (Vanessa Marshall) is revealed to have been just as ruthless and heartless as Nebula (Cree Summer) and Korath (James C. Mathis III) as they vie for the honor of being second-in-command to Ronan the Accuser (Jonathan Adams).

You can watch the first video above, and the second video is below.

In the runup to the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series, Marvel has previously posted origin videos for Star-Lord, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon. The series also features Will Friedle as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, with Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon, David Sobolov as Drax the Destroyer, Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot, and James Arnold Taylor as both Yondu and the Russian telepathic dog from Earth known as Cosmo.

Guardians of the Galaxy doesn’t follow the exact continuity of the live-action movie by James Gunn, but it’s clearly inspired by that take on the characters. The storyline for the first season revolves around the Guardians’ quest to find and destroy a cosmic seed that could literally remake the universe. To do that, the Guardians will have to get through Nebula, Thanos, Loki, and even Ronan, who won’t be dead on this show…at least not for very long.

The first episode of Guardians of the Galaxy will premiere on Disney XD on Saturday, September 5, before the series officially gets underway on Saturday, September 26.
