New GOTHAM Trailer Teases B.D. Wong as Dr. Hugo Strange and Mr. Freeze

Things are about to get really strange on Gotham.

When Fox’s DC Comics drama returns for the second half of season two on Monday, February 29, a whole new crew of villains will make Det. Jim Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) life a living hell. You thought the “Rise of the Villains” was bad? Well just wait until the “Wrath of the Villains” begins, based on this new trailer.

Leading the charge of Gordon’s worst nightmare is Dr. Hugo Strange (played by Jurassic Park‘s iconic villain B.D. Wong). Gotham‘s version of Strange is described as a brilliant psychiatrist hired to run Arkham Asylum. Strange’s devotion to rehabilitating Gotham’s most notorious villains makes him appear altruistic, but he harbors a dark secret.

Strange will soon reveal himself to be one of Gotham‘s greatest threats: a man whose obsession with pushing the limits of the human mind and body has translated into secretly conducting horrifying experiments for Indian Hill, Wayne Enterprises’ black-ops program dedicated to creating the ultimate super human—or villain. Indian Hill was first introduced in in the episode “Rise of the Villains: By Fire,” when the first-ever female Firefly, Bridgit Pike (Michelle Veintimilla), was sent to the secret underground lab for testing after her fireproof suit melted to her skin.

Gotham

Strange times indeed. Was that red- and black-haired body floating in a tube in Dr. Strange’s lab Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith)? Fox just announced that the season one villain would be returning for a multi-episode arc this season after getting tossed off a roof by Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) in the season finale. Did Dr. Strange hunt down her body in the river and resurrect her for nefarious purposes? Will she be the same Fish when we see her again, or will her resurrection change her into someone, or something else?

The new trailer also focuses on the arrival of Batman baddie Victor Fries aka Mr. Freeze (Nathan Darrow). Victor is one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers. Though ferociously smart and exceedingly capable in his work, Victor struggles to make meaningful connections with others. The one exception is his wife, Nora (Kristen Hager), who has tragically fallen ill with a terminal disease. Victor’s love for Nora knows no bounds, but as Nora’s condition worsens, Victor goes to extreme measures to figure out a way to freeze her before she dies. This harrowing journey leads to his transformation into the legendary DC villain Mr. Freeze.

As for the old villains like Penguin and Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas)? Penguin’s been captured (is he being sent to Indian Hill?) and Tabitha is celebrating being free from her brother … by making out with Butch (Drew Powell)?! And the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) is still on the loose, and he’s setting his sights on Gordon.

Is it February 29 yet?!
