New FANTASTIC BEAST Images Introduce a Major Plot Point

While the basic premise surrounding Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been known for awhile, we’ve not really known how it would all play out. With the knowledge of wizards and witches coming under fire from the no-maj (we know, we know) types, the question of “how?” was always in play. Well, it seems that it relates quite intimately to Ezra Miller‘s character.

Entertainment Weekly‘s given us our first look at the hands of Miller’s newly revealed Credence Barebone:

In the photo’s caption, we get even more confusing details:

Called a “distressed orphan” by EW, Credence is actually the adopted son of Samantha Morton’s character, Mary Lou Barebone (so he’s not technically an orphan anymore). But he does seem to be a pawn for Colin Farrell’s ominously powerful character Percival Graves, the Director of Magical Security at MACUSA. Because, you see, Mary Lou is leading a Salem witch trials-esque movement against the American magical community, calling for a “second Salem” in order to eradicate the magical community in the states. So it makes sense that Percival would try to manipulate the poor boy in order to try and bring down his mother. Especially because Credence is—as EW put it—”withdrawn, extremely shy and far more vulnerable than his two sisters,” and someone who is”defenseless against the abuse that comes in response to the slightest infraction of Mary Lou’s strict rules.”
