The Final Season of THE FALL Will Have Gillian Anderson Out for Blood

If you somehow slept on the BBC Two/Netflix series The Fall, you’re going to want to go ahead and binge-watch that right now. The third and final season of the series has begun filming and it sounds like it’s going to be a major doozy. (Oh and, naturally, if you don’t want to know any spoilers, turn away from this post right meow.)

Man oh man, we just love us some Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan on TV. Especially when they’re in the thick of their Paul Spector/Stella Gibson cat-and-mouse game. In the season two finale, the high-intensity, morally ambiguous final moments saw a bleeding Spector lying in the arms of Detective Superintendent Gibson, unsure of his fate after being shot in an ambush. No doubt a tough moment for Gibson, who’s spent months and months trying to find the man who’d tortured, assaulted, and murdered many women in his lifetime.

As it stands, season three is slated to take off immediately where the last ended. According to a press release from the BBC, the series’ creator Allan Cubitt says that he’s “been on a very exciting journey over the last five years with Stella Gibson and Paul Spector–the central characters of The Fall –and I’m thrilled to have recently started filming the third installment of their macabre, obsessive dance of death. Gillian and Jamie have lived and breathed those characters during that time and I’ve been incredibly well-served as both writer and director by their stellar performances. Obviously I don’t want to give anything away about how the third series will end, but I can say that I am looking forward to working with both Gillian and Jamie again in the near future!”

So there you have it, folks: it’s all coming to an explosive, dangerous end—and in only five episodes. Anderson and Dornan will be joined by new castmates Krister Henriksson, Aidan McArdle, Ruth Bradley, Aisling Bea, and Richard Coyle. Last season’s latest addition, Colin Morgan, will return as Detective Sergeant Tom Anderson, with series regulars John Lynch, Valene Kane, Stuart Graham, Bronagh Waugh, and Aisling Franciosi also on board.
