New Details and Concept Art From Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man for the PS4

I can’t tell you how happy I am for Spider-Man coming to PS4. I’ve been known to criticize “realistic” games in a very specific manner over the years by saying “Why would I want to ride a horse, shoot a gun, or drive a car in a video game where there are games where you can literally be Spider-Man?” So, Insomniac Games new web-swinging adventure coming in 2018 is right up my alley, especially since this game (in a long line of them) looks to be the closest possible thing to actually being Spidey. A new featurette that premiered at this week’s D23 Expo explains a bit more about the upcoming game.

The featurette has three of the minds behind the game giving us a little background on where we meet up with Spider-Man in his world. Lead writer Jon Paquette, creative director Bryan Intihar, and art director Jacinda Chew explain that it was important to them to make it a story that affects both Spider-Man and Peter Parker. Players will control a 23 year-old Peter Parker who’s been busy spider-manning for eight years, which means he’s familiar with his powers and–as Intihar puts it–is in the prime of his career, like a professional athlete. He’s got a handle on his powers and is confident improvising with his surroundings, which is something that appears vital to the gameplay. The video is interspersed with footage from the game trailer that was released a few weeks ago, but also has some beautiful concept art (around the 1:27 mark) of some battles and Peter’s incredibly cluttered apartment.

How excited are you for this game? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
