New BROOKLYN NINE-NINE Clip Hints That Gina and Boyle May Have Made a Mistake

In this new clip from the second season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Gina (Chelsea Peretti) and Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) have to figure out how to keep a between-seasons indiscretion secret from Jake. Which might be harder than they think because Boyle is incapable of not being completely, embarrassingly honest with his best buddy, Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg).

Season two looks like it’ll be kicking off with a nice little gap between the first season finale, which saw Jake seemingly leaving the force but actually going undercover to root out dirty cops connected to the mob. Yeah, that was a surprisingly serious and mature turn for the show.

The Boyle/Gina dynamic seems cute (and the kind of thing that’ll be wrapped up in an episode), but I’m wondering about some of the other threads from the first season, like the out-of-left-field burgeoning romance between Peralta and Detective Santiago (Melissa Fumero); plus, how’s life for Sgt. Jeffords (Terry Crews) now that he’s out in the field again and no longer riding the desk? Is Detective Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) still the best? Is Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) also still the best?

More importantly, what will the move to Sunday nights do for Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Even if the critics seemed to show the series a lot of love, no one was watching, causing the show to flounder in its mid-week timeslot. Could The Simpsons lead-in keep it alive? And whither Bob’s Burgers, which is getting shuffled around thanks to the move?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns Sunday, September 28 at 8:30 on Fox.
