New BROADCHURCH Season 2 Sneak is Majorly Emotional — and Twist-y

Oh TWIST, you guys. The second season of Gracepoint Broadchurch has already premiered in the United Kingdom, but it’s coming stateside via BBC America on Wednesday, March 4th. In order to sate your appetite (and convince you that torrenting it after it airs overseas is a bad, bad idea — which it IS), the network released a new clip during Saturday’s Television Critic Association Winter Press tour in Pasadena and — hoo boy — is it an emotional doozy.

Naturally, there are many a spoiler about to be unleashed onto the Internet, so proceed with caution (or not at all)! You’ve been warned.

Picking up at the trial of DS Ellie Miller’s husband Joe Miller for the murder of Danny Latimer, the entirety of the second season will largely focus on that. But it will also reopen some old wounds for DS Alec Hardy (a/k/a David Tennant) — namely the oft-mentioned but never explained Sandbrook case that took place before season one.

In the clip below we see that trial as it begins and — trust — what happens in it is a shock to literally everyone (us included).

See what we mean?! What in the what is going on, Joe? Huh? We all know you did it. WE KNOW. You confessed!

Starring David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, and Arthur Darvill in their original roles, Broadchurch‘s second season will also include Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D’Arcy, Eve Myles, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

How excited are you for season two of Broadchurch? Let us hear all about it in the comments.

    WHAT?!?!!! =O

  2. Nia2113 says:

Ava, they said that Gracepoint was going to have a different ending then the original Broadchurch in order to bring people in to watch it. I recommend really watching the last episode of season one and then watch season two.

  3. Mark says:

I wonder if they are going to incorporate the Gracepoint last minute twist into Broadchurch.

  4. Ava says:

In Gracepoint they did explain Sandbrook and Joe was not the killer. I was thinking of watching S2 of Broadchurch since Gracepoint was canceled, but seems like I would just be confused.

    • Jason says:

In Broadchurch, he was the killer.  He hadn’t stepped over the line to full-on molestation, but he claims he was in love with Danny.  Here in America, they changed the killer so that we wouldn’t know who it was.  That’s why people were up in arms for a bit about him being the killer again–they had promised he wasn’t the killer.  It’s been a while, but I believe Joe killed him in the house.  I think he choked Danny to death, because Danny was going to tell everyone what Joe and Danny had been doing.
In Broadchurch, they touched on what happened to Alec, but didn’t fully explain it.  We knew there would be more to the story.

Because Broadchurch’s script was lifted for Gracepoint, you should be able to watch it and not be confused.  Just swap the killer, and you’ll be in step with everyone else.

  5. Scott says:

If they don’t want us to Torrent it, then why the freak don’t they air it on BBC America at the same time as in England?   BBC America has access to such great content and we get re-runs of US shows instead?  Crazy silly stupid.

    • Diana says:

Or at least when they do air, do so in its entirety. Would it be that hard to have less ad breaks, or just extend the time slot? They already do it for Doctor Who premieres. I don’t want to miss chunks of show.
