âBut thatâs exactly why this has to be done, and capably done. It canât look like our justice system tosses people on the ash heap.â
Thatâs the reason given to attorney James Donovan in one of the new clips released by Dreamworks Pictures for the upcoming thriller, Bridge of Spies, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks.
The movie tells the true story of the 1960 U-2 incident, and Hanks plays the lawyer who is first hired by the CIA to defend the captured spy, who is then charged with the task of leading a swap for an American spy captured by the Soviets. The two new clips, titled âAmerican Justiceâ and âFree a Traitor,â show that accepting the responsibility for defending a reviled Soviet spy was not an easy one to take on, for both Donovan and his family, as we see in the second clip.
The trailers released for the film thus far promise plenty of action and danger, but these two clips show that, while some of the battles waged in this war were much quieter, they weren’t necessarily any easier.
The movie, co-written by the Coen Brothers and playwright Matt Charman, also features Alan Alda and Amy Ryan, and opens next month, October 16th. Based on the past success of Hanks and Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me if You Can, The Terminal), expectations are certainly high for this film.
