New Friggin’ Books!

Greetings, book lovers! Each week I’m going to try and highlight a few new release titles to keep you in the literary know, just in case anybody asks “Hey, did you see so-and-so’s new book is out?” You can reply with a resounding: “YES! On Nerdist.com!” (optional “IN YOUR FACE!” if they’re tools).

In case you’re wondering: No. I’m not going to list every single new release for the week. That would take far too long and be waaaaay too boring both to read and to write, but I’m going to try and pick what I think will interest a variety of people. Feel free to wander on over to my Twitter page and suggest anything you find appealing in the following weeks.

So here are the new books for May 25, 2010…

Blockade Billy/”Morality” by Stephen King. Hardcover.
Even the most diehard baseball fans don’t know the true story of William “Blockade Billy” Blakely. He may have been the greatest player the game has ever seen, but today no one remembers his name. He was the first — and only — player to have his existence completely removed from the record books. Even his team is long forgotten, barely a footnote in the game’s history.

Every effort was made to erase any evidence that William Blakely played professional baseball, and with good reason. Blockade Billy had a secret darker than any pill or injection that might cause a scandal in sports today. His secret was much, much worse… and only Stephen King, the most gifted storyteller of our age, can reveal the truth to the world, once and for all. Curious? Intrigued? Well I shall satisfy that later this week! Look for my complete review of Blockade Billy later this week ON THIS VERY SITE!

The hardcover novella also comes with a short story called “Morality.”

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson. Hardcover.
Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Lisbeth Salander is ready to fight back. This is the third installment in this popular series. The first book is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo followed by The Girl Who Played With Fire.

Brains: A Zombie Memoir by Robin Becker. Paperback.
College-professor-cum-zombie Jack Barnes is a different breed of undead—he can think. In fact, he can even write. And the story he has to tell is a truly disturbing—yet strangely heartwarming—one.

Brains is a blood-soaked, darkly humorous story that will have readers rooting for Barnes and his zombie posse to the very end.

Tender at the Bone: Growing Up at the Table by Ruth Reichl. Paperback.
At an early age, Ruth Reichl discovered that “food could be a way of making sense of the world. “If you watched people as they ate, you could find out who they were.” Her deliciously crafted memoir, Tender at the Bone, is the story of a life determined, enhanced, and defined in equal measure by a passion for food, unforgettable people, and the love of tales well told…

Spiced with Reichl’s infectious humor and sprinkled with her favorite recipes, Tender at the Bone  is a witty and compelling chronicle of a culinary sensualist’s coming-of-age.

Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer by John Grisham. Hardcover.
A perfect murder
A faceless witness
A lone courtroom champion knows the whole truth . . .
and he’s only thirteen years old

Meet Theodore Boone.

Brimming with the intrigue and suspense that made John Grisham a #1 international bestseller and the undisputed master of the legal thriller, Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer will keep readers guessing and pages turning.

Now go feed your eyes! Happy Tuesday!

    All of these seem great!

  2. Tim says:

I read Blockade Billy a few weeks ago when it first became available for the Kindle. It’s an enjoyable story though definitely not one of King’s best. Be warned that it is VERY short. It’s more short story than novel and does not justify the price tag considering you can get a full novel for the download price.

  3. Bethany says:

Wow, I’m kind of in love with your book choices! I really really want to read that zombie book! Great job!

  4. Patti says:

You know, I haven’t read a book in ages. All of these sound great! Thanks for the info!
