New BLAIR WITCH Trailer Will Scare the Hell Out of You

One of the movies we’re most looking forward to this fall is a little movie that takes audiences back out in to the woods outside of Burkittsville, Maryland, and lets you remember why it’s maybe not good to go camping where there be witches. Picking up the mantle where the original The Blair Witch Project from 1999 left off, director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett have taken us back out into the darkness for The Woods Blair Witch, with updated filming techniques to bring found footage up to the present day. Oh, and it looks frigging terrifying.

The above new trailer, as premiered by Collider, proves that there’s more to fear than just the darkness of open space; you also have to be afraid of being underground in a dirt tunnel that gets progressively tighter until you can’t wedge your butt through anymore…and then something grabs you. (Sidebar: that’s a scare we’ve seen a million times and can recognize a mile away, but it’s still endlessly effective.) This looks to be the year of witches, following on from the period-set The Witch, which is one of my favorite movies of the year. That movie barely showed the titular evil; will Blair Witch make her a true no-show? We’ll find out!

Collider also debuted the new poster for the film, which keeps with the general black on red color scheme of the marketing but adds the new wrinkle of having the emblem of the stick-bundle figure actually made out of people. (It’s people!!!!!)

We’re already prepared to watch this movie through our fingers and possibly wearing earplugs. TERROR. Let us know how scared you already are (using pants wetting as a scale) in the comments below!

And check out our interview with the Blair Witch filmmakers from Camp Conival!
