New BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Trailer Revisits the Tale as Old as Time

For 25 years, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast has been one of the studio’s most beloved animated films. Next year, Beauty and the Beast is getting the live-action treatment from director Bill Condon, and the new trailer should look very familiar to anyone who loves Disney’s classic movie.

While the trailer is visually stunning, it appears to be a fairly straightforward retelling of the story we know so well. Inventor Maurice (Kevin Kline) has an unfortunate encounter with the Beast (Dan Stevens), which is only resolved when Belle (Emma Watson) offers to stay as the Beast’s prisoner in return for her father’s freedom. The trailer offers a few highlight reel clips from the burgeoning romance between Belle and the Beast, including the wolf attack and even a glimpse of the final battle against Gaston (Luke Evans) and a very angry mob.

More intriguingly, the trailer gave us our first real look at the CGI for Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and the other anthropomorphic objects throughout the castle. So far, we’re impressed by the way that they move onscreen… although I have to say that Chip’s face is really freaking me out. Other than that, this appears to be an extremely well-shot film that recaptures some of the breathtaking moments from the original. It’s got a lot to live up to, but so far, we’re excited!

Beauty and the Beast will dance into movie theaters on Friday, March 17, 2017.
