New BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Details, and the First Look at Mrs. Potts

When Disney’s Beauty and the Beast hit theaters in 1991, it was an instant classic for both fans and critics, winning two Oscars and our hearts alike. Next year, Disney is mining for gold yet again with a live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and they’ve just dropped some enticing new details that have us even more excited to relive the story again. Today’s Nerdist News is racing through the Beast’s castle to bring you the details!

Nerdist News host and part-time singing tea kettle Jessica Chobot has the breakdown of the new featurette from the  upcoming Beauty and the Beast 25th anniversary edition on Digital HD and Blu-ray. For starters, Emma Watson and Dan Stevens are going full Brit as the title characters, even though the setting of the story is still in France. And remember those shots of Cogsworth and Lumiere that leaked last week? They’re totally real, and they’re not the only talking objects that appeared in the new featurette.

That’s right, we’ve got our first look at Mrs. Potts, and the new film has taken a unique approach to her classic design. Emma Thompson is stepping into the role that Angela Lansbury portrayed in the original. We also caught a glimpse of Chip, the son of Mrs. Potts who lives as a cup until the curse of the Beast can be lifted.

Speaking of which, there’s a really striking image in here of a woman in sparkling gown that has us guessing. Is it the enchantress who cursed the Beast at the beginning of the story? Or is it Belle pulling off a look that even her animated counterpart couldn’t have matched? We’ll find out for sure when the remake hits theaters on March 17, 2017.
