New Baymax Cosplay Is the Friendliest Imperial Stormtrooper

There’s a new recruit in the Galactic Empire, and he’s a little round for a stormtrooper!

Via The Replica Prop Forum, Wetworks SFX Studios’ Benito Garcia has unveiled a new mash-up cosplay which reimagines Baymax from Big Hero 6 as an Imperial stormtrooper from the original Star Wars trilogy. But this agent of the Empire is far more likely to give you a hug than to shoot you.

Within the story of Big Hero 6, Baymax seemed to be impervious to Hiro’s attempts to toughen him up and make him more like a typical superhero. With his core programming in place, Baymax is too inherently good to be much of a threat to anyone. Remember, Baymax was created by Hiro’s brother, Tadashi as a “healthcare companion robot.” He’s simply not built to be a fighter. The shape of Baymax’s big friendly eyes capture that quality, even when the rest of his face is covered by a stormtrooper’s mask.

“I have always had an obsession with stormtroopers,” explained Garcia when we asked him about the origin of this cosplay. “Every since I was a little kid I’ve been infatuated with them. I believe Joe Parrish from BlackGate Studios did the Batman Baymax, (which rocked) and I was hooked after seeing it. I was inspired to do my own mashup. Baymax is a great character and just kind of lent itself to do a fun combo.”

Garcia plans to debut the Baymax Trooper cosplay at O Comic Con in Council Bluffs, IA from July 8th to July 10th.
