New BATMAN V SUPERMAN Clip Reveals Why Bruce Wants Clark to Bleed

“Tell me…do you bleed?”

This was the first all-new catchphrase we ever heard from the mouth of Ben Affleck’s Batman, in the very first Comic-Con trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. What we never had, up until now, was context. What prompts such a threat from a hero who, canonically (for the most part), refrains from using hardcore violence unless absolutely necessary?

Well, Zack Snyder appeared on Conan last night, and brought with him a longer clip which shows just what Superman says first.

It’s also more clear in this clip that, rather than following in the Kevin Conroy/Michael Keaton/Christian Bale tradition of doing a raspy voice the moment he dons the black and gray (a practice that reached its most gloriously mockable any time Bat-Bale yelled for Rachel), Batfleck is going for an Arrow-style voice modulator to confuse anyone who might be ultra-familiar with Bruce Wayne as the bomb in the boardroom, yo.

That said, it’s not necessarily looking like Superman has fully renounced his controversial neck-snapping ways from the last film. Or at least, that’s what he might want you to think.

We don’t know where this takes place in the larger story, but as nerds, it’d be irresponsible of us NOT to speculate wildly. We know Bruce Wayne’s upset about his building coming down in Man of Steel, but what metaphorical bee is up Superman’s butt? Does he know how expensive the Batmobile is to repair? Will he be scared by the extra reverb in Bruce’s verbal threats? How long before the first YouTube parody shows up?
