New ASSASSIN’S CREED Trailer Brings the Action to the Past and Present

The Assassin’s Creed movie has snuck up on us like a killer in the shadows, and now it’s just over two months away. The new trailer has just dropped, and Michael Fassbender faces dangers in two eras!

Much like the Ubisoft video game series that spawned it, the core storyline of Assassin’s Creed doesn’t deal with time travel. Instead, Fassbender’s character, Callum Lynch experiences in the past are achieved through the Animus device, which allows him to relive the memories of his ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha in 15th century Spain. As you can see in the new trailer, Callum didn’t exactly volunteer for this procedure. As far as the rest of the world is concerned, he’s already dead.

Callum isn’t the only one who has a counterpart in the past within this film. Michael K. Williams plays Moussa in the present and the Haitian assassin Baptiste in the past, while Matias Varela portrays Emir in the modern sequences and Yusuf in the past. The trailer also gives us a glimpse of Marion Cotillard‘s Sophia Rikkin, the head scientist of the Abstergo Foundation that forced Callum to endure the Animus project. Unfortunately for his enemies, they’ve inadvertently given Callum the means to fight back with all of the skills of his ancestor.

To go with the trailer, 20th Century Fox also released a new poster of Fassbender in his dual role as Callum and Aguilar.
