New ASSASSIN’S CREED SYNDICATE Original Song by Miracle of Sound Heads Down To London Town

On Friday, October 23, Ubisoft will release Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, the ninth game in the series…and it’s bringing a lot of changes to the franchise! Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate moves the setting to London in 1868 near the end of the Industrial Revolution and it allows the players to control either Jacob and Evie Frye as they attempt to wrest control of the city from the Templars. Evie is also the first female protagonist in the main Assassin’s Creed series, and players can switch at will between Evie and her brother, Jacob.

Ahead of the official launch for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Gavin Dunne a.k.a. Miracle of Sound has written, produced, and performed “London Town,” a new song directly inspired by the game. “London Town” is also the latest original song in Dunne’s long library of video game, TV, and movie music.

Shortly after the release of “London Town,” Dunne shared his thoughts about the song, the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and what he’d like to see in future sequels for the game!

Nerdist: When you write a song, which comes first: the lyrics or the music?

Gavin Dunne: It’s different every time, actually! I don’t have a set methodology – I work in total, utter chaos. I might sometimes start with a beat, sometimes with a riff, sometimes with a phrase or word or vocal melody… It’s always different

N: What sound were you going for with “London Town?” It seems familiar, but I can’t place it.

GD: I was aiming to capture the sound of many classic British rock bands such as Oasis, Blur, The Beatles, Suede… I’m a big fan of all those artists so it was fun to do something similar!

N: How familiar were you with this historical era before you started working on the song?

GD: Not hugely familiar. I usually spend a day before each song doing a little research about the place and time period, whether it be a real life one or a fantasy one. It helps to get the ‘feel’ right

N: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate isn’t out until next Friday. Have you already gotten your hands on it?

GD: Nope! People are often surprised by this, but I very rarely get games early.

N: What aspect of the Assassin’s Creed games do you most appreciate?

GD: My favorite part of every AC game is just wandering around exploring the cities. The historical tourism is the main draw for me with the series, I adore getting lost in the great atmospheres and gorgeous architecture of the cities they build.

N: Considering that you’ve done seven Assassin’s Creed original songs, is it safe to assume that this is one of your favorite franchises?

GD: Ha, yes, it’s safe to assume that! [Assassin’s Creed 2] is still my favorite but I’ve enjoyed most of the others, too. I’d like them do a bit of a revamp next year, modernize the mechanics a bit, give us less collectibles, but more varied missions – stuff like that.

N: How many callbacks to your earlier Assassin’s Creed songs did you include in “London Town?”

GD: There are 3 callbacks. One to “My Revolution,” one “crimson river” phrase that’s in lots of the songs, and one to “Blood Of The Creed.”

N: Which eras do you want to see future Assassin’s Creed games take place in?

GD: I’d love to see one in my homeland of Ireland! Other than that, I think I want the same thing most AC fans want – a core game set in ancient Japan or China. A future city setting could also be really cool. Cyberpunk it up!

N: And now a blast from Dunne’s musical past: “My Revolution,” an original song inspired by last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Unity!
