New AMERICAN GODS Photo and More TV News

My oh my, Comic-Con has begun and no one can save us now. Don’t forget to stay glued to Nerdist throughout the weekend for all the latest breaking entertainment news from the convention because you don’t want to fall behind. Today’s TV-Cap has a couple tidbits about Powerless and Riverdale at Comic-Con, a fresh and shiny picture from American Gods, a Supergirl season two casting update, and more.

Getting There. Is it time for the premiere of American Gods yet? Because Starz keeps trickling out images, and I’m dying over here. Don’t they understand I’m not patient? The latest tease is a picture shared by Entertainment Weekly featuring Shadow Moon with Laura (Ricky Whittle and Emily Browning). Laura’s deceased, and I refuse to give away spoilers about this scene from the book by Neil Gaiman. I can’t wait to see what Starz has in store for us at Comic-Con. [Nerdist, Image: Starz]

Into the Sunset. Starz is sending Black Sails rowing away into the sunset. The series, a pirate-centric drama that’s a prequel to Treasure Island, will come back for the fourth and final season in 2017. Series executive producer and co-creator Jonathan Steinberg said, “While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural hand-off to Treasure Island.” Insert a sad “Aarrrrgh!” here. [Deadline]

The Shoe Fits. Remember when Cinderella appeared on Once Upon a Time? Jessy Schram hasn’t had the chance to reprise her role often, but she will be back in the third episode of season six. We’ll find out Cinderella has a tie to the new land introduced at the end of season five; the episode will also show how she and Snow became friends. [TVLine]

First Look. Tricia Helfer is coming to Lucifer in the role of Charlotte, Lucifer’s mother. She’ll be a series regular in the second season of the Fox drama based on a comic, and we have our first look at Charlotte courtesy of TVLine. [ComicBookMovie, Image: Fox/TVLine]

Shrinking Down. There’s still one more film to go for the Divergent series to complete the tale, however, it might not be released in the same way as the other films. Variety has reported the next installment, Ascendant, will skip the theater and go to television. They want to keep the current cast to wrap up the arc and then bring in new folks and spin the Divergent franchise off into a TV series. Crazier things have happened. But if they’re going the TV route because of less than amazing box office earnings, why do they think a TV series would take hold? What are your thoughts? [IGN]

A Mystery. Supergirl has added another character from the comics in a series regular position for season two. But who is it? We have no idea. TVLine reports Chris Wood has been cast in the role, and that he’ll appear early on in the season. Do you have any theories? [TVLine]

So Many Sparkles. I happen to very much like glitter, but that doesn’t mean I ever want it covering my sweaty skin–or my non-sweaty skin for that matter. Norman Reedus used the shiny weapon against Andrew Lincoln on the set of The Walking Dead in a sparkly prank that I’m still giggling about. Watch the above video. I know you’re already thinking about which of your friends you want to attack with glitter. [Nerdist]

On the Screen. American Gods isn’t the only property of Neil Gaiman’s with its eyes on adaptation. Universal Cable Productions is working with Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller to turn InterWorld into a TV show. Have you read InterWorld? Tell me about your dream cast in the comments. [Nerdist]

A Dramatic Look. Artist Francesco Francavilla has worked on Archie comics, and now he has a connection to the Riverdale series with a new poster. The CW worked with Archie Comics to get posters signed and they’ll be available on Sunday morning of Comic-Con. [Comic Book Resources, Image: Archie Comics]

Preview All the Things! Networks are showing off pilots for some upcoming shows at Comic-Con, and Sydney is on the ground to check them out and offer her spoiler-free takes on the first episodes. She’s already shared her thoughts on Powerless and Riverdale, so go check ’em out.

All in the Family. Daveed Diggs, a.k.a. Lafayette and Jefferson in Hamilton, is making the jump to television. He’ll be joining the cast of Black-ish in season three as Rainbow’s brother Johan. [Variety]

Spooky Times Ahead. WGN America is bringing Salem back for season three at the end of October, right around Halloween. They’ve released a new trailer for Comic-Con, and it has all sorts of bananas things in it—resurrection, crucifixion, fire—it’s all pretty on par for Salem. [Deadline]

Next Steps. The arrival of San Diego Comic-Con isn’t enough to delay Mr. Robot. Read Samantha’s recap of “Kernal Panic.”

Head to the comments to tell me about your opinion on the new Supergirl character, Divergent heading to TV, and anything else on your mind.
