With Disneyâs Moana about to debut in theaters, itâs the perfect time to look back on classic Disney films. Moanaâs directors Ron Clements and John Musker have created some of Disneyâs most legendary animated characters, including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, and Princess and the Frog, just to name a few.
To celebrate their contribution to our childhood memories, Disney has put together an art show titled, âAn Art Tribute to the Disney Films of Ron Clements and John Musker,â set to open November 19 at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA. Last month we got a peek at a few of the pieces that will be featured in the show and now we have an exclusive look at six never before seen works of art from Hercules, Aladdin & The Little Mermaid.
“Go The Distance” by Janice Chu and “Pantheon” by Abigal L Dela Cruz both capture the classic Hercules mythology with striking color. Meanwhile, over in Agrabah, any cat lover will appreciate Griselda Sastrawinata-Lemayâs “Rajaâs Favorite Time”, while the beauty of Aladdin is represented in the tribute “Unbelievable Sights” by one of my favorite artists, Elsa Chang.
Villains are some of Disney’s most beloved characters… after all, itâs good to be bad. Trevor Mezakâs ode to Herculesâ Hades portrait almost pierces your soul, while “Haveheksen” by Marie Thourhauge Toerslev uses dark tones to show just how enchanting, yet sinister The Little Mermaid‘s Ursula can be.
