Netflix Will Stream the GODZILLA Anime Film Later This Year

When it comes to giant monsters, Godzilla is in a class by himself. While we eagerly await Godzilla: King of Monsters and Big G’s cinematic rematch with King Kong, fans still have a Godzilla anime film to look forward to later this year. And you won’t have to go very far to enjoy it!

Via Anime News Network, Netflix has picked up the global streaming rights for the Godzilla anime film, and it will become available on Netflix after the Japanese theatrical run has concluded. The anime is being produced by Toho, with Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan) and Hiroyuki Seshita (Knights of Sidonia) as co-directors, and Gen Urobuchi (Psycho-Pass: The Movie) as the screenwriter.

While there have been previous animated adaptations of Godzilla, this is the King of the Monsters’ first anime. Story details about the Godzilla anime have not been fully revealed, but the previously released concept art appears to depict a team of explorers making their way through a lush alien landscape. Or perhaps it’s some undiscovered realm on Earth itself, but that wouldn’t explain why the explorers are wearing environmental suits.

We have no idea what it all means, but that is some seriously gorgeous concept art. The Godzilla anime will be featured at a panel during AnimeJapan 2017 on Sunday, March 26; and we’re hoping to discover more details about it at that time.
