Netflix Unveils New LUKE CAGE Poster

Is the world ready for a bulletproof badass? You’d better believe it! Marvel’s Luke Cage made his live-action debut last year during the acclaimed Jessica Jones series, and next month, Cage will headline his own 13-episode series on Netflix.

During San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel TV dropped an extended sizzle reel for Luke Cage, and Netflix is reportedly planning to release the first official trailer on Tuesday, August 9. Ahead of that new footage, Netflix and Marvel have released a new Luke Cage poster that features Mike Colter‘s title character as he demonstrates his unbreakable skin in a very potent way.

Luke Cage poster

Luke Cage has been a part of Marvel’s comic book universe since 1972, but he wasn’t always one of their top heroes. As originally envisioned by Archie Goodwin, John Romita, Sr., and George Tuska; Cage was a very over-the-top character during Marvel’s blaxploitation phase in the ’70s. Marvel began modernizing Cage during the ’90s, and his profile was significantly raised when Brian Michael Bendis added Cage to his New Avengers lineup in 2005.

Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker is depicting a more realistic version of Luke Cage in the upcoming series, with Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard, and Theo Rossi playing revamped versions of Cage’s ’70s era villains Cottonmouth, Black Mariah, and Shades. Simone Missick is also co-starring in the series as Misty Knight, one of Marvel’s most popular African-American heroines and one half of the Daughters of the Dragon with Colleen Wing, whom Jessica Henwick will portray in the Iron Fist series next year.

Luke Cage‘s first season will premiere on September 30.
