It turns out the “revenge for a stolen childhood” trope is a purview that isn’t limited to just Bruce Wayne, or to heroes, or to the DC Comics Universe for that matter. In Netflix’s newest Daredevil trailer, we get the first real look at what drives the villain of Matt Murdock’s story, and it seems his impetus in this story is very much rooted in his past. Kingpin, who I’m assuming will be operating in the series under his given name Wilson Fisk, is a calculating, tortured, and physically strong character. Actor Vincent D’Onofrio is most likely going to be flexing his rage range quite a bit and I’m excited! D’Onofrio is a frighteningly good actor–The Cell, anyone?–and given how little I know of Charlie Cox, who’ll be playing Matt Murdock/Daredevil, I’m already sold on the quality of the series. After all, there is no such thing as “too many flipped tables” when it comes to the small screen.

The rest of the cast is a pretty solid bunch, to boot. Deborah Ann Woll was, in my opinion, one of very few bright spots in the universe that was HBO’s True Blood, and I’m thrilled to see her join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking of joining the MCU, Rosario Dawson is officially on the Disney/Marvel payroll and that is very exciting. She’ll be playing Claire Temple, who in the comics was attached to Luke Cage. Luke Cage, in turn, will be debuting in the Jessica Jones series before headlining his own.

The Daredevil series premieres next month on April 10 at 12:01 PT and 3:01 ET. True to binge-watching form, all 13 episodes will be available at launch. As an added bonus, if you have a 4K-streaming capable device, Daredevil is in fact available in 4K, so all of those rainy fight scenes are going to look real good in ultra hi-def.

Daredevil also stars Elden Henson, Toby Leonard Moore, Scott Glenn and Ayelet Zurer, among others. For the uninitiated, and for those who haven’t read the comics and have either managed to avoid or, as I did, to repress 2003’s big screen outing for the character, Matt Murdock serves the justice system by day as a lawyer, and by night as the vigilante known as, of course, Daredevil. Blind since he was a boy, Matt is essentially Toph Beifong without the earthbending. He’s able to hone his aural capabilities into what essentially serves as hyper-advanced echolocation. In just one month, we can all see for ourselves how Matt Murdock serves up his blind justice.
