Netflix Database Knows What Good Movies are Available to Stream

Allow us to slip into infomercial mode: Are you tired of booting up Netflix only to realize that you have no idea what you want to watch? Is browsing the few categories that Netflix offers not providing any fruitful results? Once a movie catches your eye, isn’t it such a pain to check its ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and other sites to see if it’s worth you time? Are you trying to Netflix and chill with a significant other, but not being able to find the right movie is totally killing the mood?

Ugh, there has to be a better way!

Now, there is, thanks to Cinesift, a new website that aims to solve a lot of these problems. Cinesift is a website created by Reddit user yombat that cross-checks move ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, Metacritic and Letterboxd with the movies that are currently available on Netflix and Amazon Prime to help you find the right movie.

There are plenty of useful search filters as well. You can search for movies released in a certain range of years, or only movies of certain genres, or movies in a particular range of ratings, or movies with certain actors or directors… there’s a lot you can do. Do you have an oddly specific craving for a comedy made between 1995 and 2005 starring Will Smith that has at least a 7.0 rating on IMDb? That’s great, because Cinesift let us know that you can totally watch Men in Black on Amazon Prime right now.

All in all, we’re impressed, especially since this database was created by just one person. Check out Cinesift here, and if there’s a feature you’d like to suggest or other feedback you’d like to give about the site, comment on the original Reddit post.
